Roku Doubles Down On Ads

On Oct. 30, 2024, Roku reported that it ended the third quarter (Sept. 30) with more than 85 million active accounts worldwide, up 12.7% from more than 75 million accounts in the previous fiscal year period. Streaming hours across the proprietary ad-supported Roku Channel, and third-party streaming services, increased 20% to 32 billion from 26.7 billion last year.

Streaming hours alone on The Roku Channel increased 80% from the same period in 2023. Roku expects to reach 100 million active streaming households in the next 18 months.

On the fiscal side, platform revenue increased more than 15% to $908.2 million from $786.8 million last year. Devices revenue, which includes televisions, streaming players and soundbars, increased 23% to $154 million from $125.2 million last year.

“We remain focused on growing platform revenue … including innovating our home screen to expand monetization, growing ad demand through deeper third-party platform integrations, and growing Roku-billed subscriptions,” CEO Anthony Wood and CFO Dan Jedda wrote in the shareholder letter.
